Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect vacation property experience:

When to go & When to reserve a rental home:

  • Summer time is high season in Corolla. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • In the Currituck area, The earlier your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Some hosts offer special rates for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Often, management companies supply Currituck area visitors guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Finding the best rental in the Currituck area:

  • Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. As Time Goes By: Dog-friendly, Elevator, Private Pool & Hot Tub has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking websites. If not, email or call the host before reserving the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

Know before you go:

  • Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Record any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a terrific vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
