Tips to get the best rental home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- In the Currituck area, The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Book your vacation in Fall or Spring months to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local Currituck area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have offers and deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
How to select the best vacation rental:
- Select a group lead, choose your dates, and choose a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. 5 BR\/3 BA Corolla Oceanside -Pool\/NEW Hot Tub, quick walk to beach! has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before booking the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Considerations for your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Record any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
