Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Get the best rental home value:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. To get the largest vacation home within your budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Currituck restaurants, tours, and activities.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Currituck area visitor guides which include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Finding the perfect vacation rental:
- Select vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. WILD HORSES! Secluded, 4-wheel drive, family get-away, 4x2190, Just Beachy has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available online. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you reserve your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is optimal for your family.
- If there's a particular Currituck destination you long to visit, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
Tips for a wonderful stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- At Check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a excellent vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
