Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:
Sticking to a budget:
- In the Currituck area, The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Reserve your rental home in the Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Currituck visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain discounts for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- First and foremost, have your family commit to a vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Oceanside Corolla Luxury Condo, Pool, No Stairs has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking pages. If not, email or call the property owner before you book the rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is best for your trip.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
- If there's a specific Currituck beach you crave, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
Know before you go:
- Put the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
- Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to drive future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
