Finding the best vacation property experience:
Get the most from your spending budget:
- Booking your vacation home in Fall or Spring is a good way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- In the Currituck area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies often offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Currituck visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Planning, picking, and booking your Currituck vacation home:
- First and foremost, have your family agree to dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Whalehead Adventure w\/ Ocean Views, Pool, Spa has 9 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Currituck vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking websites. If not, call the property owner before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs applied to your agreement.
Tips to have a smooth stay:
- Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To make sure no damages are linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the property manager right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of issues.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great resource to find the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to propel future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
