Tricks and tips to get the perfect Currituck vacation home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Booking your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is an excellent way to save on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties.
- In the Currituck area, The earlier your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Some owners offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Often, management companies supply Currituck area visitor guides which include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Filter your search:
- Choose dates and maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Thanks Dad: 6 Bedrooms, Large Private Pool, Hot Tub has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking websites. If not, call the property management company before you reserve the rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what is right for your group.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.
More considerations:
- Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- During arrival, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great time? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
