Tips and Tricks for getting the best vacation property experience:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- To find the best value, consider changing your family's Currituck vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Currituck area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have offers and deals for local accommodations and attractions.
How to pick the best vacation home:
- Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a budget.
- Rec Room has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property manager before reserving your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a single event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.
During your stay:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To make certain that damages aren't attributed to your stay, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
