Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation rental experience:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To find the best value, change your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many property management companies supply Currituck area travel guide magazines which include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation dates, and select a budget.
- Private Pool, Hot Tub
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your trip.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a certain Currituck beach you love, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
More considerations:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of problems.
- Lock your rental while you're out. Protect your property!
- Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
