Reserving your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. To book the largest vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Currituck restaurants, tours, and activities.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have offers and deals for local tours and attractions.
How to pick the best vacation home in the Currituck area:
- Begin by choosing your the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. 5 Bedrooms plus a Loft sleeping area has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Currituck vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property management company before you reserve your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

Some things to know before you go:
- Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many issues.
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
- Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to drive new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
