Our top Currituck vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To book the most suitable rental within budget, we highly recommend reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Currituck attractions.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Currituck area visitor guides which include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- First and foremost, have your group select dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. NEW Soundview, Private Pool, Hot Tub, Beach Access has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Currituck rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before reserving your rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is optimal for your vacation.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's an individual Currituck attraction you crave, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
Some things to know before you go:
- Get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Document any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to inspire future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
