Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
How to pick the best vacation rental in the Currituck area:
- First, have your family commit to trip dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Fun In The Sun: Private Pool, Hot Tub, Gym Access has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available online. If not, reach out to the property management company before booking your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
Have a great stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
- To make sure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. message the property manager right away to record any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would at home.
- On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
