Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:
When to go & When to book:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the best value, shift your family's Currituck vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Selecting the best rental:
- Choose your dates and maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Dog-friendly, ocean-view home with pool, private hot tub, & fast WiFi has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before reserving the home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is right for your trip.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a particular Currituck destination you are enamored with, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
Advice for your stay:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few concerns.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
- Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a excellent vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
