How to find the best rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Book your Currituck rental in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local Currituck visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on local shops and restaurants.
Filter your search:
- First, have your family choose trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Beachaholic: Hot Tub
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property management company before you reserve the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what configuration is best for your trip.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or could be applied to your invoice.
- Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a excellent time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
