Vacation rental home tips:
How to get the best rental value:
- To book the largest rental home within budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Many rental management companies supply Currituck area travel guide magazines which include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Make a plan and choose the right Currituck rental:
- First and foremost, have your group commit to a vacation week and a spending budget.
- 1900 ft to the beach
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's an individual Currituck attraction you crave, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.
Advice for your stay:
- Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- To make sure no damages are attributed to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas upon check in. message the host right away to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
