Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
When to book & When to go:
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To get the largest rental home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities.
- In the Currituck area, The sooner you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have coupons for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Planning and picking your prefectvacation home:
- Begin by choosing potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Sandalous 6BR with Heated Pool and Hot Tub has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible online. If not, contact the property owner before booking your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your group.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.
Tips to have a great stay:
- Get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- To make sure that damages are not linked to your visit, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the property manager right away to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be respectful. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
