Tricks and tips to get the best vacation property experience:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- In the Currituck area, The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Reserve your vacation home in the Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Often, property management companies supply Currituck area visitors guides which often include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Make a plan and pick your prefectrental:
- Choose dates and max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration you need. Oceanside, 5 BRs, Wild Horses, 600 ft to Beach Access, 4wheel Drive Area, 4x2398, The T House has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible online. If not, reach out to the property management company before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
Know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific source for finding the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on great ratings to stimulate more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
