Tips and Tricks to get the best Corolla vacation home experience:
Finding the best value:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Some property management companies offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Currituck area visitor guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to pick the perfect rental home in the Currituck area:
- Start by selecting trip dates and a spending budget.
- Private Pool, Hot Tub, Dog Friendly
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking websites. If not, contact the host before you book your home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is best for your trip.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
More considerations:
- Get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Upon arrival, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
