Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation property experience:
Finding your perfect rental:
- Summer time is high season in the Currituck area. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Currituck area visitors guides which often include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Finding the best rental home in the Currituck area:
- Choose your vacation week and budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Updated home steps from the beach with hot tub, screened porch & pool table has 8 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking websites. If not, email the property management company before you book the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
Advice for your stay:
- Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute arises.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a excellent stay? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
