Strategies to get the optimal vacation home experience:
When to visit Corolla & When to book:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Corolla. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many management companies supply Currituck area visitors guides that include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Make a plan and pick the best Currituck vacation home:
- Choose vacation week and max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Relaxing semi-oceanfront Corolla home with private pool & hot tub, rec room has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before reserving the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or charges may be applied to your agreement.
More considerations for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute arises.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a great resource to find the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to inspire future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
