Our top Vacation rental tips:

Get the most from your rental home budget:

  • To find the best rental for your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Currituck attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • In the Currituck area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Property managers usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Currituck area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.

Make a plan and choose your prefect Currituck rental home:

  • Begin by choosing your trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Relaxing semi-oceanfront Corolla home with private pool & hot tub, rec room has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible online. If they are not listed, email the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.

More considerations:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • At Check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a great stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
