Tricks and tips to get the best rental experience:
When to go & When to reserve a Currituck rental home:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Currituck area. Booking your Currituck vacation rental in the Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Some owners offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers often offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Currituck visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.
Planning, selecting, and booking a perfectrental:
- Choose a group leader, choose your dates, and select a max budget.
- Oceanfront
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before you reserve your rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is right for your vacation family.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
More tips for your visit:
- Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of issues.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a great time? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
