Our top Vacation rental home tips:
How to get the best value:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Currituck area. Reserve your Currituck rental in Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Filter your search:
- First and foremost, have your group choose trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Gorgeous Corolla vacation home, directly across from the beach access! has 7 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often available online. Otherwise, call the host before you reserve your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If there's an individual Currituck attraction you crave, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.
During your stay:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To make sure damages are not linked to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the host right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
- When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to stimulate more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
