Rental home booking tips and tricks:
Cost saving strategies:
- Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is a great way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- In the Currituck area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Many rental management companies supply Currituck area visitor guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- First and foremost, have your group choose the best dates and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Bubbles Up: New Construction, 6 Bedrooms, Private Pool has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking websites. If not, call the host before you reserve your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or costs might be applied to your invoice.
Some things to know before you go:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your . Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
- During check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many difficulties.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a terrific stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
