Tips and Tricks for getting the best rental experience:

Get the best rental home value:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Currituck area. To find the best value, change your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • In the Currituck area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Currituck visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have deals for nearby tours and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Begin by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Aweigh From It All
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the host before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Note any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of problems.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible source for finding the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
  • Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a wonderful time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
