Rental home tips and tricks:
When to book & When to go:
- The sooner you can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking your Currituck vacation home in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers typically offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local Currituck visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain coupons for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Begin by selecting your the best vacation week and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. A License To Chill: Family friendly home, close to playground, private pool and has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking pages. If not, contact the property management company before you book your home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs applied to your invoice.
- If there's a certain Currituck beach you love, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
Advice for your stay:
- Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- During check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on great ratings to drive new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
