Our top Rental home booking tips and tricks:
Find your best deal:
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Book your Currituck rental property in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Often, management companies supply Currituck area visitor guides that include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Filter your rental search:
- Start by having your family decide on a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. OCEANFRONT, 4-wheel drive area, Wild Horses, Ocean Views! 4x1662, Dolphin Watch has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before booking the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's a particular Currituck beach you are enamored with, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
More considerations:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to propel new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
