Strategies for getting the perfect rental home experience:
When to go & When to book:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserve your Currituck rental home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local Currituck area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have money saving offers on nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Choosing the best vacation rental:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and choose a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Best OBX vacation!4x4 beach, private dock, hot tub, pool, Horses. Pet-Friendly has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Currituck rentals search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or might be applied to your contract.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of problems.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Upon check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a fantastic stay? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
