Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Booking your vacation home in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, management companies supply Currituck area visitor guide magazines which include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Filter your rental search:
- Start by having your family choose vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. The Good Stuff: Oceanside, Private Pool, Two Hot Tubs, Easy walk to Beach! has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out which bed configuration is best for your vacation.
- If your family is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Does your family require particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
- At Check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
