Tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the Currituck area. To find the best value, change your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- In the Currituck area, The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Some property managers offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Many management companies supply Currituck area visitor guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and picking your prefectrental:
- Start by having your group choose dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Taste of Paradise in OBX! has 7 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before reserving your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If there's a particular Currituck destination you are enamored with, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- At Check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect your property!
- Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
