Strategies for getting the perfect Currituck rental home experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in Corolla. To get the best value, consider changing your family's Currituck vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Currituck visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain discounts for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Make a plan and pick the bestvacation home:
- Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and select a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Oceanside, Community Pools, Community Tennis, M417, Lighthouse Landing has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or applied to your invoice.
- Is your family looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Additional considerations:
- Add the owner's information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of issues.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Record any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to drive new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
