JUST RENT IT! Since 1979, OAR has been serving families with quality gear for their beach vacation fun, their baby needs, or the even the beach cottage, all at reasonable daily & weekly rental rates.  Reservations before your arrival are strongly encouraged, and can be made at www.OceanAtlanticRentals.com or toll-free at 1-800-635-9559 every day of the week!

Everything can be delivered to your door; from bikes to surf boards, kayaks and paddleboards, OAR stocks the fun stuff to enjoy in the water, or on land. Back at your beach home, OAR has you covered with gas grill rentals, rollaway beds, beach towels, and even dog crates!  Bike rentals for the entire family are just a call away at Ocean Atlantic Rentals, or get around town on a Golf Cart LSV.  These street legal golf carts are a great way to explore the villages, or get your family and gear to the beach everyday if your vacation home is some distance from the Atlantic ocean.  If you are traveling with small children, OAR has cribs, high chairs, gates, and even play yards and strollers for the little ones, made just for the beach!

You don’t have to buy cheap beach chairs, umbrellas and coolers while you are here. Just rent them at Ocean Atlantic Rentals, and get quality gear that is built to last. Individual items may be rented, or Beach Value packages are available where you will really get your money's worth!

Cabana services are available with the OBX Umbrella Service! Your items will be setup each morning, and taken down every evening at your beach spot!  We will text message you each day as your gear is ready for use, and can even provide iced coolers each day with your setup.

If you prefer to visit one of our 4 local store locations, no problem! Stop in and checkout the gear for yourself at on of our rental centers, located in the Corolla Light Town Center, in the Village of Duck, on the Kill Devil Hills bypass (serving all of Kitty Hawk and Nags Head), and down on Hatteras Island, located in Avon, right next to Outer Beaches Realty.  

Staying in the 4x4 area of the northern beaches near Carova? No problem again, just let OAR handle the delivery to the off-road area for you, or pickup your gear at our Corolla store and save money!

The Cotton Gin

Most know The Cotton Gin as a must-stop shop for fine gifts, beachwear, souvenirs and so much more, but this retailer has a long-standing history within the Outer Banks. A local landmark that holds almost a century of memories, The Cotton Gin started from humble beginnings and continues to adapt to the times and tourists. Tommy Wright’s family has been in the Outer Banks for nearly 200 years. His great-great grandfather, Jacob Francis Wright, shipwrecked in Duck back in the early 1800s. Calling these barrier islands his new home, Wright and his family acclimated to their new environment.

 

Adaptation is a common theme for the Wright family. Tommy and his wife Candace, who continue to steer The Cotton Gin, have seen not only their business change with the times, but the Outer Banks as a vacation destination as well. A farm market in Jarvisburg eventually transformed and flourished into several retail locations dotting the Outer Banks.

 

“As the area changed and tourism took off in the 1960s, the family saw people coming for vacations, so they began to grow vegetables and things developed from there,” says Tommy Wright. The Wright family expanded upon the farm market and began to remodel a working cotton gin, later transforming the gin into The Cotton Gin general store in the late 1960s. While the additions to the farm store drew visitors, it was their encounters with the Wright family that kept people coming back year after year, which is something that remains true today.
