How to get the best rental home experience:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- Summer months are high season in the Currituck area. To find the best value, change your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Currituck area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Planning and picking a perfect Currituck rental:
- Begin by selecting your vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Luxurious oceanfront home, elevator, pool, game rm. Friday turnover! 4x4 bch has 6 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your invoice.
Know before you go:
- Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if damages are assessed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on great ratings to inspire future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
