Our top Rental booking tips:
Sticking to your budget:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local Currituck visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.
Selecting the best vacation rental:
- Begin by selecting your the best vacation week and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. ! DUNE NOTHING 4x4 wheel DRIVE ONLY Unplug and have an Adventure has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Currituck rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is right for your trip.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Advice for your stay:
- Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
